Maintenance Grant

 

The program aims to ensure the well – being of orphan and vulnerable children, by providing Child State Grants.

Who qualifies?

Children whom:

  • Biological parent with child/children under the age of 18, whose gross income is not more than the amount of Old age grant and whose spouse (mother/father of the child) is receiving an old age or disability grant or whose spouse (the breadwinner) has died or whose spouse (the breadwinner) is in prison for six months.
  • Child heading a recognized child-headed household as well as adult supervisor of a child-headed household.
  • Namibian citizenship or permanent residence if not born in Namibia.

NB: A state maintenance grant is payable until the child reaches age 18 (the age of majority) – but can be extended to age 21 in some circumstances, on application to the ED. The grant will stop if the child no longer fulfils the grant criteria (for example, if the child’s parent becomes liable for income tax).

How to apply

  • Application for a State maintenance grant must be made in person at a constituency or regional office of the Ministry.
  • Ministry staff will provide the appropriate application form and assist the applicant to complete it.

Registration period

Every day Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 17:00 PM

Required documents

  1. Certified copy of child’s birth certificate
  2. Certified copy of caretaker’s ID
  3. Certified copy of caretaker’s marriage certificate (if applicable). A marriage certificate is required if the applicant is a married woman.
  4. Letter from prison services if breadwinner is in prison, and declaration from breadwinner in prison.
  5. Proof of applicant’s eligibility to apply for the grant (if the applicant is not a parent)
  6. Certified copy of death certificate (if one or both parents is/are deceased)
  7. Proof of income of one parent and if not then a sworn declaration that applicant is unemployed must be provided.
  8. If employed, a pay slip with the name, telephone number and address of the employer, stating the amount the applicant earns.
  9. Banking details of proposed recipient (or other payment methods).
  10. Proof that the child is in the care of the proposed grant recipient.
  11. Proof of school progress report if it’s a child attending school.

Benefit/service provided

Monthly cash of N$350 per beneficiary

Transfer mode

Cash mobile payment mode, commercial banks, Nampost Smart Card Savings Account, and Institution of care.
